On the Internet today there are many recipes for homemade pet food. You need to be very careful in your choices. There are some of these recipes that may not be best for your pet.
As most of you know there are pro’s and con’s to most everything in life, well the same thing goes for the choices that you make when feeding your pet. Homemade or Commercial? Allot of people wonder about this question because of the recalls on Commercial pet foods as well as the cost. Then again there is the question of do I really want to spend that much time to make Homemade meals for my pet? Well lets take a look at some of the pro’s and con’s with both.
Some of the pro’s with commercial pet foods are that they are easily accessible. You are going to get the same thing that you got the last time you made a purchase ( if you are staying consistent with the brand that you buy). There is no mess, you simply reach in the bag and scoop it out. Simple enough right…
Now lets take a look at some of the con’s of commercial pet foods. Allot of today’s commercial pet foods are loaded with harmful chemicals that may hurt your dog in the long run. There are several additives and indigestible fillers in most commercial pet foods (sounds yummy right) that are basically empty calories and are like feeding your dog cardboard. There are several preservatives in most commercial dog foods. Not to mention that we always need to be on look out for recalls. How fun is it to have to readjust your pets digestive system because the food that they are used to has been removed from the shelves of your local stores due to recall.
Now lets look at the pro’s and con’s of choosing Homemade pet food. Like before we will start with the pro’s. When personally cooking or preparing your pets meals you are able to look out for products that your pet may be allergic to and avoid those things. Preparing your pets meals may also help with digestive disorders as well as weight gain issues. These meals are more than likely going to be more healthy and more balanced for you pet. Not only that but who doesn’t love a home cooked meal.
Ok, so now lets talk about some con’s. As I mentioned before there are several recipes on the Internet for homemade pet meals but be careful, some of these recipes may be dangerous to your pet. I highly recommend that you consult your veterinarian before deciding what is right for your pet. Not only that but you know how much it is to prepare meals for your self and your family now lets add the meals for your pets! The majority of your time is going to be spent cooking and cleaning. That sounds like funĀ right.
Regardless of your choice, this is your pet and you decide what is best for them with the help of your vet. So rather you chose to be an owner that makes homemade pet food or you chose to be the owner who runs to the local store to pick up a bag of commercial pet food just make sure that you way the odds and do what your pet needs you to do.
